RHS Harlow Carr
This excursion begins with a visit to RHS Harlow Carr, offering a variety of growing landscapes, from running and still water, to woodland and wildflower meadows. Highlights include the lavish Main Borders, bursting with generous prairie-style planting, and the lush, moisture-loving plants around Streamside. This afternoon we spend some time exploring the Victorian spa town of Harrogate. With huge open spaces and broad tree-lined boulevards, antique shops, and abundant greenery, it is little wonder that the town is a frequent winner of Britain in Bloom awards. Harrogate also boasts the famous Betty's of Harrogate tearooms, founded in 1919.
Whitby
We enjoy a day out to the coastal town Whitby. The town has long been popular with visitors to Yorkshire's Coast, owing to its delightful harbour, which is surrounded by pretty houses and accommodation, restaurants, and fun things to do. All this splendour is overlooked by historic Whitby Abbey, and alongside a sandy beach. The town is famous for its association with Bram Stoker's Dracula, English explorer Captain James Cook, and the mysterious Whitby Jet. Visitors can stroll along the harbour walls, from where seals, dolphins, and porpoises can be seen as little fishing boats chug by. Whitby is also synonymous with Fish & Chips and is home to many award-winning chippies, including the famous Magpie Café.
City of York
On the first and last days of your holiday we enjoy some free time in York. Small and mighty, York is the medieval walled city that packs a punch. Its backdrop of medieval lanes, Snickelways, and even a shopping street that dates back to the Domesday Book, means this compact city is brimming with things to do and see. One of the most impressive visitor attractions is the 2,000-year-old Gothic Cathedral, with halls tall enough to fit the Leaning Tower of Pisa inside, or the pretty 13th-century timbered streets of The Shambles. Check out one of the many olde world pubs, or learn about York's fascinating chocolate heritage at The Chocolate Story in the heart of the city.
