Join our coach to Somerset and see the UK’s oldest carnival and one of the largest illuminated carnival processions in Europe. Ever since Guy Fawkes was discovered by the guards of King James I on that cold November night in 1605, Bridgwater has celebrated his failure and The Gunpowder Plot in its own unique way.

Bridgwater Carnival
Today is free to explore the local area. We then return to the hotel where we will have an early dinner before heading to the carnival this evening. Prepare to see the Somerset sky set alight by this annual illuminated procession, the Somerset Carnival of Light. Fantastic floats ablaze with lights, live music, marching bands, fancy dress walkers and entertainers all add to the magical wintery atmosphere. Visitors will have not one, but two opportunities to be dazzled by the glittering carnival procession.
City of Plymouth
As you'd expect for a coastal city, Plymouth has plenty of attractions for all ages, including the National Marine Aquarium - the UK's largest aquarium, the historic Saltram House, 17th-century fortress The Royal Citadel, and museums and galleries such as the Mayflower Museum, which explores the story of the voyage of the Pilgrims and their journey aboard the Mayflower to the New World. There are also plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities.
