Faversham & Brewery

Our day begins with a ride to Faversham, nestling between the rural gently sloping downs and the North Kent marshes. It is one of England's most charming towns with more than 475 listed buildings and a good selection of independent shops. Here we include a guided 'behind the scenes' tour of Shepherd Neame Brewery, followed by some free time in the town to relax and explore.

Mysterious Marshes

We are met by a tour guide and head for southern Kent and the land of mysterious marshes and smugglers, arriving first in New Romney. A Cinque port since 1155, the Great Storm of 1287 changed the course of River Rother and made New Romney an inland town. Next, we arrive at Lydd. In the 18th and 19th centuries the town was notorious for the activities of 'owlers' - local smugglers hooting to each other at the dead of night. The day ends with some time in Tenterden, known as the 'Jewel in the Weald'.
