This nostalgic tour to South Yorkshire features an interesting and attractive selection of excursions! We visit the thriving, historic market town of Newark-on-Trent, Gainsborough’s Old Hall and the city of Sheffield.

 

 

Our Hotel: Hellaby Hall Hotel, South Yorkshire

This commanding 17th century building is steeped in history and proudly combines period charm with every modern convenience. It offers a restaurant, bar and beautiful oak panelled reception lounge, an ideal place to relax and unwind. Leisure facilities include a heated swimming pool, spa, sauna and fitness centre. All bedrooms are en-suite and feature a TV, telephone, hairdryer, iron, and tea/coffee making facilities. This hotel has a lift.

Newark-on-Trent

Newark-on-Trent & Gainsborough Old Hall - We head Nottinghamshire and the historic market town of Newark-on-Trent for free time to browse and explore. This afternoon we visit Gainsborough Old Hall, a large, late medieval manor house built around 1460. See the original kitchen and imposing Great Hall where Richard II and Henry VIII have once stood!

Botanic Gardens

Sheffield Botanic Gardens & Abbeydale Hamlet - We visit Sheffield Botanic Gardens and Glass Pavilions, a stunning oasis of colour in a peaceful setting. This afternoon we visit the unique 18th century Abbeydale Hamlet to hear about the city's distant past, with workers houses, waterwheels and workshops! Our return to the hotel will take us past Manor Park and the ruins of castle where Mary Queen of Scots was held.

Chesterfield

Chesterfield & Bolsover Castle - this morning we head to Chesterfield for its flea market, offering more than 100 stalls to wander around. Don't miss the town's famous landmark - the crooked spire! This afternoon we enjoy a visit at Bolsover Castle. Set on a hilltop overlooking the Vale of Scarsdale, the 17th century fantasy castle offers panoramic views, brilliantly restored interiors and a café.

All tours on this site do include our very popular door to door service. On the day of departure, one of our small minibuses or cars will pick you up, at your door at the stipulated time and transfer you to the coach. Check on this map to see if your address is within our pick up area.
